Location: Province of Chiriqui and 25 miles from David City.
Population: 24,000 (2023 estimate).
Language: Spanish but many locals speak some English, especially those who work in the service/tourism industry.
Area: 188.6 square miles.
Climate: There are different micro-climates in Boquete. Expect 85 *F to 65 *F temperatures. March is low to moderately humid.

  • Boquete was founded in 1911.

  • The first settlers in Boquete came from other areas of Panama and various foreign countries, predominantly Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Sweden, Germany, and the United States.

  • The town of Boquete is known as the “Valley of the Flowers and Eternal Spring.”

  • Boquete, surrounded by mountains sits on the hills of the Baru Volcano, the tallest point in Panama at 11,397 feet.

  • Boquete is located only 37 miles from the border with Costa Rica.

  • In Spanish the word Boquete (pronounced boh-KEH-theh) means “gap or opening.”

  • Boquete is the prime destination in Panama for Eco, Nature, Adventure, Culinary, and Active Tourism.

  • Conde Nast Traveler magazine listed Boquete as one of the Favorite Places To Go During 2022.

  • One of the most famous trails in Boquete is the Quetzal Trail; named after the beautiful and elusive Quetzal bird.

  • Boquete’s bajareque is a strange phenomenon experienced during the dry season where the northern strong winds bring a fine mist which is followed by stunning rainbows.

  • Boquete is listed as one of the top 10 destinations to retire in the world. 

  • Almost 1/5 of the population of Boquete are expats and retirees.

  • The most expensive coffee in the world to date is a natural processed Geisha from Boquete, Panama.

  • Currently, Panama’s Geisha Coffee is priced up to $600 per pound, or the equivalent of $9 per cup in Panama and $18 in some New York coffee shops.

  • Panama's coffee is carefully hand-picked by men and women of the indigenous Ngabe-Bugle territory.

  • Boquete hosts many wonderful events annually including the Flowers and Coffee Festival, The Jazz Festival, and many folkloric fiestas.
